DUBAI, – The Suriname Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai honoured the memory of the late musician and composer Eddy Snijders on Tuesday, 23 November, in a live musical show portraying his life story.
Local musicians and performers presented a 30-minute production on the Earth Stage about the great musician, who lived between 1923 and 1990, and left behind a legacy including dozens of musical works. Snijders is famed for composing ‘Spirit of Suriname’ and ‘Christmas Hymn’, two renowned pieces rooted in the consciousness of the Surinamese people.
A young performer played the part of Eddy Snijders, accompanied by a group of singers and musicians who performed his most iconic works. Snijders is credited with founding many orchestras in the South American nation, including the Surinamese Police and Military Bands.
